CoinShares says Bitcoin will not reach $80,000
CoinShares, one of Europe’s largest digital asset managers, recently stated that Bitcoin is not expected to break through the $80,000 barrier in the short term. According to the company, the combination of a more restrictive monetary policy from the Federal Reserve (Fed) and the regulatory deadlock surrounding the CLARITY Act bill in the United States limits the appreciation potential of the market’s leading cryptocurrency. The analysis sparked debate, as VanEck, also a global asset manager, disagrees with this projection.
Conservative Fed and legislative uncertainties weigh on the market
For CoinShares, two main factors are preventing Bitcoin from advancing beyond current levels: the prospect of higher interest rates for longer in the US and the lack of regulatory clarity regarding crypto assets. The Federal Reserve has been signaling since early 2026 that it does not intend to ease monetary policy anytime soon, keeping interest rates high to control inflation. This scenario reduces appetite for risk assets like Bitcoin, which usually benefit from more abundant liquidity environments.
In addition, the deadlock around the CLARITY Act—a bill seeking to define clear rules for the crypto sector in the US—keeps institutional investors on hold. The law, which remains stalled in the US Congress, is seen as crucial to unlocking the entry of large volumes of capital into the cryptocurrency market. Without legislative progress, the environment remains uncertain and keeps some traditional participants away.
VanEck bets on all-time highs for Bitcoin
In contrast to CoinShares, asset manager VanEck maintains an optimistic stance and predicts that Bitcoin could indeed surpass $80,000 as early as 2026. According to VanEck analysts, growing institutional interest, driven by the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in various jurisdictions, should continue to support demand for the asset. They also highlight the effect of the halving that took place in April, which reduced the supply of new bitcoins and tends to push prices higher over the coming months.
However, VanEck acknowledges that volatility is likely to remain high, especially given macroeconomic and regulatory uncertainties. Even so, they believe that Bitcoin’s resilience in the face of recent shocks, such as bank failures and geopolitical tensions, reinforces its role as a store of value.
Impacts for investors and the market’s next moves
The debate between CoinShares and VanEck reflects the division of opinions on Bitcoin’s price potential in 2026. While some analysts see a ceiling at $80,000 due to macro and regulatory factors, others bet that the combination of institutional interest and scarcity could lead to new highs. For investors, the scenario calls for caution and close monitoring of the Fed’s and US Congress’s next steps regarding the CLARITY Act.
As of September 2026, Bitcoin fluctuates between $70,000 and $77,000, with trading volumes on major global exchanges indicating caution, but no signs of mass exits. The sector remains in anticipation of regulatory decisions and possible changes in US monetary policy, which could unlock or limit the asset’s appreciation potential.
